Game Description
Mallorca eXpress is an entertaining trick-taking card game for 2 or more people about Europe’s most popular holiday island. A pack of cards contains 53 playing cards, one for each municipality of Mallorca. On each card there is a picture from the municipality and 5 data categories, represented by symbols, which are labelled with the corresponding values. The following data categories about the municipalities are included in the game:
- Number of residents
- Number of beaches
- Size of the community area
- Number of hotels
- Number of guest beds
Each card has a QR code that leads directly to a comprehensive web information page for the respective municipality.
All game variants can be played with or without a joker.
The joker takes all other cards, regardless of whether ‘over’ or ‘under’ is announced.
Mallorca eXpress is not only an entertaining card game, but also a lasting souvenir with which you can take the whole island home with you!
Card Explanation
Rules of the game
Variant 1 (2-4 players):
The aim of the game is to be the first to win 3 tricks.
The cards are now shuffled and placed face down in a pile in the centre of the playing area.
The first player picks up the top card face down, followed by the other players in clockwise order.
The first player looks at his card, chooses a category on his card that suggests a chance of winning and announces, for example, ‘hotels-over’ or ‘hotels-under’ and reveals his card.
The other players then reveal their cards.
The player with the highest or lowest number of hotels (depending on the announcement) takes the other cards and thus receives the cards played.
In the event of a tie in a category, the card number at the top right decides the round, depending on the announcement ‘over’ or ‘under’.
The second player in clockwise order starts the next round and makes his announcement.
The first player to have 3 tricks wins the game.
Increasing the number of tricks required to win increases the level of difficulty (with 2 players up to a maximum of 13 tricks, with 3 players up to a maximum of 6 tricks, with 4 players up to a maximum of 4 tricks).
Variant 2 (2-10 players):
The course of the game is essentially the same as variant 1. When the deck of cards has been used up, all the tricks are collected, the cards are shuffled again and placed in the centre. How often this process has to be repeated depends on the number of players and the number of tricks needed to win. It is therefore advisable to note down the players‘ tricks before the cards are reshuffled.
Variation 3 (2-6 players):
The cards are shuffled and each player receives 3 cards.
The remaining cards are placed face down in the middle.
The players pick up their cards face down and the first player takes the top card from the pile.
Now the first player plays a card and announces ‘over or under’ for their chosen category.
Then the other players take the top card from the pile one after the other and try to beat the card that has been played.
Then the second player starts the next round, picks up the pile and plays a card.
The round is over when the pile of cards is used up.
The players‘ tricks are counted and noted.
After, for example, 5 rounds, the scores are calculated and the player with the most tricks wins (the number of rounds can be chosen arbitrarily).
If two or more players have the same number of tricks, there is a tiebreaker.
To do this, the cards are shuffled and the players with the tie take any card from the pile and turn it over.
The card with the highest number wins the tiebreaker.
